Palm Oil Product Ethic Support
I think I have well enough knowledge now to know I need to change my diet. Even when I eat Twizzlers or pizza with reckless abandon, there's a guilt in the back of my brain ticking off the ingredients or manufacturing process that is ethically irresponsible. Chiefly, palm oil. I know something's got to change, I have no excuse now.
Yet, palm oil is a tricky one. It is responsible for mass destruction of the tropical rainforest of Borneo, home of the orangutan, but some think that completely eliminating palm oil from your diet and lifestyle isn't the answer either. If we switched to another oil, we could be soon destroying habitat for the demand for that oil, too. There are certified sustainable companies, but you may be second guessing how closely they are sticking to their action plan.
This service is for support on your (or our) journey to ethically conscious consuming of palm oil, and avoidance of "dirty palm oil". It's like a tag team to make sure we're on track.
-We can talk about products we found with palm oil.
-New products we found that are sustainable.
-Newfound tricks of your trade (for example my hunch is limiting processed foods would make checking the ingredients and avoiding unwanted ones a lot easier)
-Research on companies and their sustainability.
-Discuss about palm oil plantations and their impacts.
-Work out companies to contact regarding environmental concerns.
-Maybe even collaborate.
-And of course, you can ask questions on any of these things. And I'll try my best using my own brain and Google.
This is for people who don't want to feel alone in their endeavor to make a difference and just need someone to talk to about it that cares about the issue. Someone who needs the extra push, reminder, motivation to keep going. Or maybe wants a second opinion.
Training & Qualifications
I volunteered for the Borneo Nature Foundation in the Sabangau peat swamp forest in Kalimantan. I learned about their conservation efforts first hand. What inspired me to go on the trip was the researched I did for Borneo for a Geography report when I was 15, which educated me on the environmental issues of Borneo and their orangutans.
