Vent Here
Honestly, I'm not sure how I could help, besides listening and research, at the moment. I live far away from the hurricanes, my AmeriCorps application was denied, and I'm waiting for my application to go through for volunteering at the local fire department and Red Cross (so I haven't been trained in anything, yet).
Some of my strengths are:
Thoughtful listening,
Writing,
And Research
I've lived in tents three different occasions of my life (the first time I stayed in a tent, I lost much of my stuff due to a seasonal flood, and the third time, recently, I evacuated because of the Milli wildfire). Some humbling experiences I've had due to unstable times were:
Depositing bottles as an extra income
Using the library for the computer and daytime shelter
Digging a pit toilet
Showering at parks (or help creating a shower area with a tarp, watering can, and rope)
Etc.
Which is not all that bad when you get used to it. "A body can get used to anything, even to being hanged, as the Irishman said" - Anne of Green Gables
One advice I can give you right now is even though things are tough, life goes on. I've found while facing dark times it's useful to maintain support from friends and family, if you can. To follow your passions even if it feels almost impossible at the moment. To give back to the community, such as volunteering. And to not forget simple pleasures. These things have made it to where I feel like I'm more than simply existing.
Training & Qualifications
I lived through instability, whether it be familial, financial, educational, mental/emotional, and minor natural disasters.
I have an amateur interest in psychology. I've learned about depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, DID, FAS, schizophrenia, ASD, etc. I have dealt with my own anxiety and depression. I also interpret dreams.
Availability & Preferences
NOT Sunday or Monday, because the library isn't open.
