Beginner's ASL Tutoring
40
I will give basic instructions on how to improve American Sign Language (ASL) in half-hour lessons. I will match my lesson and tutoring to meet the needs of the student, however new he or she may be to signing. I will teach basic introductory skills such as fingerspelling the alphabet, saying hello and how are you, etc. I will answer questions about Deaf people and Deaf culture, keeping in mind that a better source is to ask a Deaf person. Users/students are preferred to have questions ready in regards to ASL and Deaf culture, but aren't required to. This is an introductory course and I will not be teaching advanced ASL or interpreting as that is the right of the Deaf society to mandate and teach. I'm also hesitant to commit to any long-term agreements of multiple lessons since I'm flaky with a lot of things lasting more than a day, but we might be able to work something out if you let me know. Willing to use Skype, FaceTime, Glide, or Marco Polo to teach signs upon request. I live in Utah, following Mountain Standard Time.
Training & Qualifications
I am a signer of over five years and have graduated an interpreter training program with an Associate's degree in ASL/English Interpreting last spring. I'm a level-one certified interpreter for the state of Utah with experiences interpreting in K-12, community, medical, and platform settings. I have taught multiple ASL classes in the community and mentored a new signer for several months.
