Tutoring

30

30 per hour - Virtual OK - Posted Oct 05, 2016

I am a certified special education teacher (K-12) and I can tutor children of all ages, with or without disabilities, in a variety of academic and non-academic subjects and skills. This includes foundational skills (reading fluency, phonics, reading comprehension, writing, grammar, vocabulary, number sense, number fluency), all the way up to high school math, language arts, science, and social studies. I may also be able to help in other areas such as social skills, computers/technology, etc.

I can help with homework, or I can create individualized lessons to help build skills and boost confidence. If needed/wanted I can also dialogue with the student's teachers to ensure continuity/consistency and maximum efficiency.

Please include student's age/grade level, subjects and/or skills requiring assistance, and whether they need help with pre-existing assignments or if you'd like me to customize a lesson plan.

About Lindsey Borg

I am a full time special education teacher and part time waitress. I like to be outside as much as possible, but when the Hilo rain prevents me from enjoying the sun, the sand, or the waves, I'll prob...ably be inside reading or creating. I love camping, hiking, swimming, snorkeling, and SUPing. I am trying to learn how to surf. I also enjoy cooking, baking, coloring, knitting, crocheting, and sewing. I was born in Savannah, Georgia and grew up in northern Connecticut, where I lived in Torrington, Litchfield, Bantam, Storrs, and Manchester. I relocated to the Big Island in 2014 and have fallen in love with the Hilo community. I have my bachelor of science in special education with a concentration in science and my master of arts in educational psychology, with a graduate certificate in positive behavior interventions and supports. I love teaching and think education can solve most of the world's problems, however I think our current educational systems are very broken. I have lots of ideas on how to fix them but am working on building my experience, network, and resources. For this reason I'm active with HSTA and am the Hilo representative of HYPE (Hawaii Young Professional Educators). I also currently run an after school gardening program, which is a learning experience for me just as much as it is for the children, but it's definitely a world of fun. My current life goals are to lose weight, get out of debt (even though I was on full academic scholarship for all of my undergraduate, and I attended a public state university, one year of graduate school has devastated me financially), get organized, and live a more minimal lifestyle. show more
