Are you an atheist or agnostic interested in learning more about the world's oldest version of the largest religion? I'd love to chat.
Are you a "born-again" Christian who wants to understand Catholics and other "liturgical" faiths?
Are you a convert or cradle Catholic seeking deeper faith and meaning? I'd love to be on the journey with you.
Do you just have big questions you want a perspective on? Let's chat.
I chose Catholicism, I wasn't born into it. I believe it's the only truth, and that all other religions and ideologies have only a part of that truth, and not the glorious holistic truth of the church I chose. I believe in the saints, in Purgatory, that Mary is Queen of Heaven and remained a virgin her whole life, I believe in a whole host of extremely unpopular and frankly, odd things. I believe in the dignity of all human life, regardless of age, ability, or actions. I believe in one God, creator of all life - though he might have created that life through an evolutionary process. I believe the Bible is the truth, but contains many different truth-types - parables, poetry, prophecies, and historical accounts. And I believe that within the Sacraments and practices of the Church lie all of the needs of human kind. I believe in the consistency, historicity, and depth of the Catholic Church and I can confidently say - I would die for her, just as hundreds of thousands have been martyred over the last 2000 years.
NOTE: While I have many excellent rational arguments for faith and am primarily a rational person, this service is NOT a chance for debate. I am not interested in the kind of debate dictionary defined as a "formal argument." I am interested in questioning, sharing and considering ideas in a relaxed, personal atmosphere. This also means that I am gentle, non-judgemental, and I won't actively try to proselytize you - I personally believe it's God's responsibility to draw people to himself, and mine to live out my faith in the best way I can. If you are considering converting to the faith I will encourage you on your journey, but otherwise I'll just share what I believe, and answer your questions about it.
Training & Qualifications
I converted to Catholicism from being a mostly-conservative general protestant (Baptist, Pentecostal, Alliance etc.) who grew up in a family who genuinely followed the Prosperity Gospel. After abandoning that entirely while in University, but still believing in the God of the Bible, I went on a personal spiritual journey which landed me, at first unwillingly, on a Catholic journey. Now I am making huge life changes to be consistent with that journey.
