Looking to lose weight, stabilize insulin, operate with a clearer mind? You may be interested in a ketogenic, low carb high fat (LCHF), or modified Atkins diet. My approach incorporates all three and streamlines the day to day guidelines to something that's more manageable but just as effective. This diet has induced ketosis for me for several years now.

Ketogenic diets originally came to popularity in the 1920's as a treatment for epilepsy, successfully lowering the number of seizures in even the most difficult of cases. People on the diet noticed a number of other health benefits, including weight loss, steadying of blood sugars, and a cure from 'brain fog'. Over time, the diet was slowly moved away from in favor of pharmaceuticals. The diet had a resurgence starting in the 1990's as epileptic patients looked for further treatment measures when pharmaceuticals could not control their seizures. Thus, the health benefits were again seen, and it spread to wider circles. When I have strayed from the diet, I begin gaining weight and my seizures begin again.

Note: Do NOT begin any diet for the purpose of treating seizures or diabetes without direction from your healthcare provider. These conditions can be deadly, and must be treated with the utmost care. This is my serious school teacher voice, please just don't. If, however, you just want to lose weight and feel better, let's do this :-)
