25 value - - Posted Nov 16, 2017

Life-threatening emergencies can happen fast. Emergency responders aren’t always nearby. You may be able to save a life by taking simple actions immediately. YOU are the help, until help arrives.

This 3 hour course will teach you how to use simple skills to save lives. You will learn basic skills to help people with life-threatening injuries until professional help arrives. You will learn to effectively communicate with 9-1-1 operators and tips on keeping yourself safe during an emergency. You will learn how to recognize and stop severe bleeding by using direct pressure or applying a tourniquet. We may also discuss how to pack a wound to stop severe bleeding that cannot be controlled by direct pressure or by a tourniquet. You will learn how to appropriately position an ill or injured person and how to provide comfort and emotional support. We will discuss working with children and working with people who have a handicap or functional need. You will learn how to prepare for emergencies and what to keep in a first aid kit.

Stephen is easy to work with. He was clear, quick to set up a time and eager to take in constructive insights and offer rebuttals as needed. He has a ...very good handle on his business, and has been trying some innovative things. This interaction was excellent. I would highly recommend working with Stephen. I hope to work with him again soon. show more

About Stephen Shoults

It's me, Safety Steve! I'm the owner and instructor at Keystone Community Rescue LLC, a small business serving communities in Central and Eastern Pennsylvania. I teach CPR, first aid and other classes.... In my time off I enjoy hiking and camping and have a love for the woods, mountains and the great outdoors. In 2002 I moved to Alaska where I lived in a cabin near Fairbanks. In 2007 I started working for an ATV tour company near Denali National Park. They trained me in CPR and first aid and I realized that if someone had an emergency out on the trail it would be quite a while until professional rescuers could take over patient care. This is what sparked my desire to know more about wilderness emergency medicine and pre-hospital care. In 2008 I joined my local volunteer fire department and earned certifications as a Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician. I continued volunteering and trained to the level of Firefighter-2 and EMT-2. In 2011 I was hired as a full time as an EMT on an ambulance while training to be an EMS Instructor. In 2016 I founded Keystone Community Rescue LLC to bring affordable, high-quality training to community members and professional rescuers in Pennsylvania. Also in 2016 I was certified as a Wilderness EMT after completing the Wilderness Upgrade for Medical Professionals course at Landmark Learning in Cullowhee, NC. This amazing, challenging, highly recommended 5-day course was offered through the National Outdoor Leadership School’s Wilderness Medicine Institute. I continue to attend additional courses and continuing education classes, keeping up with current science and evidence-based medicine in order to improve patient care and to have the most up-to-date information in the courses offered by Keystone Community Rescue. I look forward to connecting with others through Simbi who also share the ideals of sharing and community. show more
